One pasta shape, two different sauces

Chicken & Shrimp Orzo

Tomato-basil chicken orzo and garlic-Parmesan shrimp orzo make four portions each, with separate tomato and creamy sauces. Five Citrus Berry Refresher smoothies and five Greek yogurt-and-berry snacks fill the planned weekday breakfasts and snacks.

Moderate-calorie here means 1,700-1,999 calories for one smoothie, both meal preps and one snack. Shared orzo, broth and aromatics simplify the ingredient list without making the two sauces interchangeable. These scheduled foods are not a complete-diet prescription.

Choose either the air-fryer or stovetop chicken method, not both, and check the chicken reaches 165°F. Simmer the orzo in crushed tomatoes and broth, then add spinach, basil, Parmesan and lemon zest. The listed cherry tomatoes are included in the estimates even though the method calls them optional. Divide the cooked chicken evenly between four portions.

Keep seasoned raw shrimp refrigerated while starting the orzo. Toast the pasta, simmer it in broth, then add milk and Parmesan as directed. Sear shrimp in a separate skillet in uncrowded batches until the flesh is pearly or white and opaque; fold it into the finished orzo. Split the oil, garlic and seasonings between their written groups rather than using the combined amount twice.

Prep & storage

A little planning before the first batch.

Cook each recipe once

Make one four-serving batch of each recipe: 2 lb raw chicken breast, 2 lb raw peeled and deveined shrimp, 16 oz dry orzo, and 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth altogether. Weigh the pasta dry and keep each 8 oz portion with its own sauce ingredients; do not boil one shared batch and drain it. Both recipes cook orzo by absorbing liquid. Each lists 35 minutes on its own, with protein and pasta cooking in parallel; the combined session needs additional time and pan space. Freeze Sunday-prepped Wednesday and Thursday portions promptly, or prepare them midweek. The planner keeps “dry orzo” and “dry orzo pasta” as separate 8 oz lines; check both when marking pasta already in your pantry.

For two people, use “Shopping for two?” in the planner. Groceries double to eight portions of each meal prep, ten smoothies, and ten snacks; per-person nutrition stays the same.

Shop the overlap

  • Dry orzo
  • Low-sodium chicken broth
  • Garlic
  • Parmesan
  • Olive oil
  • Onion powder
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

Shared between the two meal preps. The planner adds smoothie and snack ingredients too, and you can uncheck pantry items you already have.

Keep later portions safe

If cooking both batches Sunday, promptly freeze Wednesday and Thursday portions after prep, or cook them fresh midweek. Use shallow containers, label the date, and thaw in the refrigerator. Blend smoothies when serving; keep dairy snacks refrigerated and follow product labels. Check every recipe and snack for allergens.

Food-safety temperatures & official guidance

Refrigerate perishable food within 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F. Keep the fridge at 40°F or below. Use refrigerated leftovers within 3-4 days and reheat to 165°F throughout. Cook chicken to 165°F, ground beef to 160°F, and fish to 145°F. Cook whole cuts of pork and beef to 145°F and rest at least 3 minutes. Cook shrimp until the flesh is pearly or white and opaque. Keep raw proteins and their utensils separate from ready-to-eat food.

What’s behind the estimates?

$52.74Meal-prep + smoothie ingredientsSnacks excluded from this price

Eight meal-prep servings ($34.43) + five smoothies ($18.31). Snack prices are incomplete, so this is a partial ingredient-use estimate, not a full shopping total.

Snacks are included in the groceries and nutrition. Whole packages can cost more; taxes, delivery, and fees are excluded.

Nutrition, comparison basis & price sources

Calorie comparison: 1,827 calories and 183g protein is the total of one serving of each meal prep, one smoothie, and one snack. Those four slots are filled on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday. The library groups planned food as lower (under 1,700), moderate (1,700-1,999), or higher (2,000 or more) calories. Each plan’s introduction explains its theme.

Weekday scheduled-food totals range from 590 to 1,827 calories because some days leave meals open. The full schedule above shows each day separately. This is not a complete weekly diet or a calorie or protein prescription.

Meal-prep and smoothie nutrition comes from current recipe labels. The planner rounds each recipe’s calories and protein to whole numbers before totaling portions. Snacks use existing per-portion planner estimates. Editing a meal or portion recalculates nutrition and groceries; unchecking a pantry item changes the shopping list, not nutrition.

Cost calculation: each meal-prep recipe’s unrounded per-serving ingredient cost × four, plus the smoothie cost × five, rounded at the end. Prices are in USD for the amounts used, including priced seasonings. Observations were checked 2026-09-21, 2026-10-02; store, location, brand, and promotions affect actual prices.

The subtotal covers the two meal-prep batches and five smoothies at dated ingredient-use reference prices; all five snacks are excluded. It is not a full-package cart total or current checkout quote. Shrimp uses a historical peeled, deveined, tail-off frozen product reference; size, brand and package choice affect cost. Powder, dairy and broth choices change nutrition and prices. The chicken recipe lists one teaspoon of oil but mentions spray in two cooking stages; extra spray, broth or toppings beyond declared quantities are not separately costed. Both meals contain wheat and dairy, and the shrimp meal contains shellfish. This is not a low-sodium plan.
